Last season, the New York Jets were at 2-14 and replaced head coach Adam Gase with San Francisco defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. The Jets also swapped former top pick quarterback Sam Darnold away and drafted Zach Wilson No. 2 overall from BYU to be their starting signal call forward. New York acquired Corey Davis to give Wilson a goal over the middle and down the field and have a number of other weapons available to Wilson. The Jets defense added key components in the offseason to improve on the poor play last season, averaging 28.6 points per game. Match.

New York Giants head coach Joe Judge is starting his second year at the helm. Daniel Jones will be the Giants’ starting quarterback, and New York will have its best offensive player Saquon Barkley on the field again after the fullback missed 13 plus games last season. Last season, the Giants were 6-10. New York added star-wide receiver Kenny Golladay to give another goal to hit. The Giants’ defense got a start after signing the pass Rusher Leonard Williams again.

Jets Wilson under the spotlight

Nr. 2 total choices in the draft Zach Wilson will watch its first live NFL action Saturday against the Giants. Corey Davis will see action as the new # 1 receiver for the Jets and rookie receiver Elijah Moore, who has been the surprise at training camp, will debut out of Ole Miss. New York also has Keenan Cole, who was signed under free agency and has both Denzel Mims and Jamison Crowder returned. Wilson will have plenty of wide receivers to throw to. Frank Gore returns by running back to the Jets, but New York signed Tevin Coleman in free agency and drafted Michael Carter from North Carolina. All three are expected to see action on Saturday.

The Jets defense added off-season signings Carl Lawson, Jarid Davis and Sheldon Rankins. The biggest signing was Lawson, who can push the quarterback, and that has been something the Jets have been missing on the defensive side of the ball. Quinnen Williams is back and will be the interior line -pass-rusher to New York. CJ Mosley, who did not play last year due to covid, returns on linebacker for the Jets. Seeing plenty of action during the preseason will be the young talented Jets secondary, which includes Michael Carter II, Bryce Hall and Bless Austin. Marcus Maye is the top member of the secondary, but is unlikely to see as much action on Saturday.

Jones has weapons to help giants

The New York Giants start quarterback Daniel Jones does not play in Saturday’s preseason game against the Jets. Mike Glennon, who was signed by New York in the off-season, will back Jones in the regular season and is expected to take the most snaps, while Clayton Thorson is likely to play late in the game. Most starters for the Giants will only play before the third season of the preseason. The Giants will not play Saquon Barkley and will have Devontae Booker and Corey Clement at the backcourt. Wide receivers Kadairus Toney and John Ross will fight for playing time alongside Austin Mack and Corey Clement, but stars Kevin Golladay, Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard are not expected to play.

The Giants’ defense will include Leonard Williams on the inside line along with a talented linebacker corps led by Reggie Ragland, Blake Martinez and Lorenzo Carter. James Bradberry and Adoree Jackson will see plenty of action at the cornerback on Saturday, while Jabrill Peppers and Logan Ryan are starters in safety and will play at least the first series on Saturday.
