The Pittsburgh Pirates have been struggling this season as their young core gains some experience as they are last in the NL Central with a 23-37 record. They will be sending young righty Chase De Jong to the mound and he is coming off a no-decision against the Miami Marlins where he went five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

The Milwaukee Brewers have been doing very well this season as they are sitting in second place in the NL Central with a 34-27 record. They will have their ace Brandon Woodruff and he is coming off a no-decision against the Arizona Diamondbacks as he threw five innings and allowed two runs on six hits with a walk and nine strikeouts.

Trade Market?

The Pittsburgh Pirates have a solid second baseman in Adam Frazieras he has an .862 OPS with two home runs and 24 RBI with three stolen bases. He has been hot in his last 30 games as he has a .370/.419/.546 slashline with both homers and 14 RBI with nine walks and 14 strikeouts in that span. If he can continue to hit as well as he has been, he could be a potential trade chip for a Pirates team still in a rebuilding process.

Chase De Jong has not pitched enough to factor into the percentile rankings on his Baseball Savant page as he has a career 6.1 barrel percentage, 89.4 MPH exit velocity, .270 xBA, and 34.3 hard hit percentage. De Jong throws four different pitches (fastball, curveball, slider, changeup) and his curve has been his best pitch as it has a .143 batting average with zero homers against it. He has never faced the Brew Crew in his young career so it will be interesting to see how he attacks this lineup.

MVP Getting Back?

Christian Yelich is the best hitter in the Milwaukee Brewers lineup and he has enough at-bats that we can start dissecting the numbers. He has a .762 OPS with three homers and nine RBI with four stolen bases so far this season. He has been struggling in his last 15 games as he has a .178/.362/.378 slashline with a pair of homers and five RBI with 13 walks and 14 strikeouts. If he can figure out how to be a consistent bat once again, it will really help the Brewers get going even more than they have already.

Brandon Woodruff has been excellent this season as he has one of the most impressive Baseball Savant pages you can see. He is in the 89th percentile in strikeout percentage, 95th percentile in xERA, 79th percentile in hard hit percentage, and 86th percentile in barrel percentage. He has a five-pitch arsenal (fastball, sinker, slider, curveball, changeup) and his fastball has been electric as he has a .089 batting average with 57 strikeouts against the heater this season. Woodruff faced the Pirates twice in the shortened season last year as he went 1-1 in 11.1 innings with four runs on five hits with four walks and 17 strikeouts against them.
