The Chicago White Sox continue to stretch their lead at the top of the American League Central after two consecutive wins over the Minnesota Twins. Chicago is 51-35 and leads the division with eight games. The White Sox defeated the Twins 6-1 on Wednesday and have a day off Thursday before visiting the Camden Yards on Friday to open their series with Baltimore. Chicago plays without the injured Aaron Bummer, Jimmy Cordero, Yasmani Grandal, Eloy Jimenez, Jake Lamb, Nick Madrigal, Evan Marshall and Luis Robert.
Baltimore is stuck in last place in the American League East and follows the leading Boston Red Sox with 25 games. The Orioles were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday 10-2 for their fourth loss in the last five games and will end their three-game set against the Blue Jays on Thursday before hosting Chicago on Friday. Baltimore has baseball’s worst team ERA. Friday, the Orioles play without the injured Chris Davis, Maikel Franco, Freddy Galvis, Hunter Harvey, Travis Lakins Jr., Richie Martin, John Means and Bruce Zimmermann.
Chicago Hitters key to White Sox success
The Chicago White Sox are 16 games over .500, and much of their success is due to excellent production on the record. The White Sox has the 5th best team shot average in baseball at .255 led by Tim Anderson (.307), has the 9th best slugging percentage at .411 led by Jose Abreu (.444) and has scored the fifth most runs with 429. Abreu has 15 home runs and 63 RBIs to lead the White Sox in both categories. The only other player for Chicago in doubles at home is Yasmani Grandal with 14, but the catcher is injured out. The White Sox have only hit 86 home runs this season, but have 144 doubles and 17 triples through 86 games.

Baltimore Pitching pulls orioles down
It’s not surprising that the Baltimore Orioles are 30 games under .500 when you look at their pitchers staff. Baltimore has the worst team ERA in all of baseball at 5.53 and is second last in both WHIP (1.46) and Quality Starts (15). Opponents are averaging 0.269 at the plate against Orioles pitching, which is also last in baseball. John Means and Bruce Zimmermann each have four wins to lead the Orioles, but both are out injured. Jorge Lopez has a team with the best 77 strikes. Baltimore passes the ball to Lopez on Friday. The converted reliever is 2-11 with a 6.02 ERA.
Baltimore Orioles hitters cannot produce enough runs to keep up with the amount the pitching staff is giving up.
