The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants, both on significant losing streaks, are aiming to end their desperate form when they meet in the series opener Thursday night from Chase Field.
Fighter loses three on the jump
After five straight wins, the Giants have now lost a bit. They have lost their last three games to fall to 50-29 for the season. Despite losing both games to the Dodgers, the Giants still lead NL West.
“That means we have to play better baseball against the best teams,” Giants manager Gabe Kapler said. “We have it in us. We’ve seen it before. We have more games with the Dodgers and we need to play better against them. ”
Johnny Cueto starts for the Giants on Thursday. He is 6-3 for the season with an ERA of 3.63 and 53 strikes. He also has a WHIP of 1.27.

The Diamondbacks lose four straight, now 22-60 for the season
That Diamondbacks have endured a terrible season to date. They have lost their last four games to drop dramatically to 22-60 for the season. There is no bright light at the end of this tunnel for D-Backs.
“Basically, we just have to perform at a better level,” said Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo. “We do a lot of right, and again, when we do two or three things wrong, it costs us the ball game and they stick out.”
Merrill Kelly starts for Diamondbacks Thursday. He has a 4-7 season record, which means he has already set plenty. He has an ERA of 4.73 with 82 strikes, 47 in the league and a WHIP of 1.29.
